Learn about the local tracks

There are many walking and cycling tracks in the Langs Beach area which are signposted on the Top Trails Map. Further information, maps and signage will be added over time. The tracks vary in difficulty -some are suitable for a short and easy family stroll, others are much more challenging.

When enjoying these beautiful tracks do spare a thought for the Wairahi Tracks volunteers who are constantly building and maintaining the tracks as well as maintaining the weed and pest control of the area.

Our projects

Now that the immediate network of walking/shared use tracks around Langs Beach is largely complete, (see map above), the focus of the Wairahi Tracks Trust has broadened to support the development of a ‘Bream Bay Trail’ from Marsden Cove to Mangawhai. It is a big goal, but the outcome will boost tourism and provide multiple exciting opportunities for recreational walking and cycling.  .

The projects include:

  • The commencement of a Shared User Path from Marsden Cove to Ruakaka.

  • Early discussions to develop a track from Ruakaka to Waipu.

  • A Shared User Path from Waipu to Waipu Cove – virtually complete.

  • Early stage discussions for a track from Waipu Cove to Langs Beach.

  • A Shared User Path from Langs Beach to Bream Tail Rd – complete.

  • A Shared User Path from Bream Tail Rd to Mangawhai - serious planning and discussion is well underway.

Get involved

We are always looking for new people to help us to:

  • Build access tracks

  • Remove weeds and pests

  • Restore natural habitats

  • Build community Involvement and ownership of this important work

The volunteers are a friendly bunch and welcome new members – just get in touch.  The ‘Friday Trackies’ sessions (2 hours ) end with a glorious bacon and egg pie, and morning tea prepared so generously by Christine Birss.
