Well, what a wonderful night it was ! And the Wairahi Tracks Trust came away with Highly Commended! It is a tribute to all the hard work and many volunteer hours that members have contributed.

The Whakamanawa a Taiao - Environmental Awards, hosted by the Northland Regional Council, were held on Thursday 26 May at the Lighthouse, Dargaville and attracted an attendance of over one hundred people. The coming together of many achieving environmental groups of Northland provided plenty of opportunity to mix and mingle and learn from others experiences. It also demonstrated the wide spread and depth of such volunteer groups across Northland. The will and love of the job was really evident. All attendees were finalists in one of seven categories, and here are the winners-

Environmental action in the community: Vision Kerikeri and Friends of Wairoa Stream

Environmental action in pest management: Kerikeri Peninsula Conservation Charitable Trust

Environmental action in education: Tangiteroria School

Environmental action in water quality improvement: Te Kotahitanga e Mahi Kaha Trust - Project Ngā Wai Ora o Ngāpuhi.

Environmental leadership: Hori Parata

Kaitiakitanga: Te Toa Whenua

Youth environmental leader : Curtis Robinson & Jayden Edwards - Junior Fishery Officers

Vision Kerikeri won the Supreme Award.

Food, kai and refreshments together with karakia and spontaneous waiata added up to a successful function.
